Pragmatismo y virtudes liberales en la filosofía de Rorty

Resumen

This paper discusses the rortian thesis that Enlightenment ra­tionalism has become an impediment to the preservation and progress of democratic societies. Firstly, it analyses the political implicantions of the pragmatist theory of truth; secondly, it consi­ders the problem of a philosophical foundation of liberalism and the utility of the rortian theory of redescription; finally, it drwas a conclusion about Rorty's philosophical political programme. The main thesis of the article is that rationalism (or, at least, a version of it) is a necessary element for the dynamics of liberal societies.
